REVIEW

Great Halloween Treat
The Adventures of Chickolet Pigolet by Debe Branning, is a delightfully entertaining story. Debe has woven a great pig tale in the charming animal community of Chowdertown. It unfolds with Chickolet Pigolet, aka Pumpkin Prince, checking on his prize-winning pumpkins that are known throughout the county as the largest, most perfect pumpkins for Jack-o-lanterns. When Chickolet selects the spooky old deserted Dr. Frankenbeans Mansion for the annual Halloween party, the residents of Chowdertown are skeptical.

After an incredibly successful party at the mansion, the guests are given a tremendous surprise, with long lasting results for the town. Debe has created wonderful characters with lyrical names like Curly Q and Sally Soweena. The main character's name, Chickolet Pigolet, tickles the tongue and will delight children. Nijlon Knold's wonderful illustrations bring this tale to life. The black and white drawings create the feel of a classic haunted story. A great addition for any child's library and a must read during yearly Halloween festivities.

EXCERPT

Chickolet felt everyone should be able to carve a pumpkin on Halloween, so each year he opened up his pumpkin patch for the pleasure and joy of the townsfolk. It was an annual event that featured a hayrack ride to the pumpkin patch, a chili cook off, face painting, and music provided by the Chowdertown Volunteer Pig Band.

"Looking good!" Chickolet smiled and patted the top of the smallest pumpkin in the patch. "Why in a couple of weeks, you'll be another picture perfect pumpkin."

Chickolet stood up and wiped his dirty hands on his overalls. He saw Mother trotting along the path waving an envelope in the air.

"What is it Mother?" he shouted and scurried down the path to meet her.

"Look here!" Mother pointed to the golden seal on the envelope and adjusted her glasses. "It is a letter from Mayor Howl Knight!"

"What could it be?" He scratched his head.

"I bet I know!" Mother tore open the letter.

"What? What? What?" Chickolet begged, jumping up and down.

"Oh, yes." Mother nodded her head. "Just what I thought. The Pigolet Family has been requested to take our turn holding the annual Halloween Party and Dance this year!"

"Our turn?" Chickolet seemed puzzled. "Didn't our family just have our turn?"

"Chickolet, you silly pig," laughed Mother. "You were only five years old the last time the Pigolet Family hosted the party. And you spent the entire evening hiding in the hall closet because Grandfather Pigolet took out his false teeth and chased you around the room with them."
